Stratford-upon-Avon is known for its history and charm, but it’s also packed with brilliant places to eat and drink if you know where to look. Here are some of our tried-and-tested favourites — the spots we keep going back to and love recommending to guests.

Great British Food Done Properly

If you’re after something classically British, The Vintner and Lambs are both excellent choices.

The Vintner has a relaxed, welcoming feel with beautifully prepared dishes — ideal for an easy, enjoyable evening.
Lambs, set in a historic building, offers a slightly more refined experience while still feeling warm and unpretentious. Perfect for a special meal without the fuss.

Loxley’s is always a safe bet. It’s lively, sociable, and great for groups or celebrations. The atmosphere here is just as much a draw as the food.

You may come across Church Street Townhouse while you’re exploring - it’s not connected to us, despite the similar name, but it does have a great atmosphere inside and serves great food and drinks.

Dining by the River
For something a little special, The Boathouse by the river is a must. Great food, a relaxed atmosphere, and beautiful views over the water. If you can, ask for a balcony seat — it’s the best spot in the house on a sunny day.

Pizza, Stratford Style
If pizza is calling, head to Sheep Street — it’s full of great options and you really can’t go too far wrong.
That said, our top pick for both fun and flavour is Red Hot Mamma’s on the corner. Expect a lively atmosphere, big personality, and seriously good pizza.

Italian Favourite
For something a little more traditional, Osteria di Gino on Union Street is a lovely spot. It’s a cosy, authentic Italian with a relaxed feel — perfect for a slower-paced meal and a good glass of wine.

Breakfast & Coffee Spots
Start your day right with a proper local gem. Right opposite The Townhouse, you’ll find Marco's — a true “if you know, you know” spot. It’s not glamorous, but that’s part of its charm. Expect some of the best breakfasts, sandwiches, and coffee in town.
If you’re heading into town, Gail’s is always a safe bet for great coffee and pastries, while Bardia’s on Sheep Street is another local favourite — ideal for coffee and cake.

Afternoon Tea with a View
I
f you’re in the mood for something indulgent, there are a couple of great options.
The Arden Hotel, right opposite the Royal Shakespeare Company, is a go-to for a classic afternoon tea in elegant surroundings.
Alternatively, the RSC Rooftop Restaurant offers a great afternoon tea experience with the added bonus of panoramic views over the town — well worth it on a clear day.

Sunday Roasts

You’ll find plenty of roast dinners in Stratford, but for a proper, old-school Sunday roast, try The Bull.

If you’re after something a bit more special, The Woodsman is just down the street from The Townhouse apartment and offers a more elevated take on the classic.
